This service operates Monday-Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm. The Adult Mental Health Service
is a program of the Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health Service. This is a Victorian Government
funded public mental health service catering for adults aged between 16-65 years. There is no
charge for services provided. Services that are offered include: psychiatric assessment and
treatment, a confidential service, 24 hour, 7 day access to the service, case management, after
hours telephone access for emergencies and an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Early Psychosis Program
and Dual Diagnosis Worker.

Acute Services
Inpatient Services
SDMH provides acute medical and surgical inpatient care including orthopaedics, ENT, Gynaecology
and endoscopy. Medical inpatient care, with medical services is provided by visiting General Practitioners.
Visiting hours are 2pm to 8pm.

Emergency Department (ED)
An Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours a day with a GP on-call. There are NO doctors
available at the hospital with patients being assessed by nurses and GP on-call notified.

Dialysis
Management of renal disease via dialysis is offered six days per week. The facility is located within
the Community Services Building and is a satellite base from The Royal Melbourne. All patients using
the service are referred from the parent hospital coordinating and managing their care.

Palliative Care
This service is provided within the whole of the Lower Hume catchment area. The team consists of Nurses,
a Loss & Grief worker and a group of volunteers who provide support and advice to people and their families
experiencing life limiting illnesses.
Mon- Friday service with out of hours provision as per assessed need.

District Nursing
Home based nursing care is provided from the Seymour District Nursing seven days per week in the Seymour,
Puckapunyal, Tallarook, Trawool, Avenel, Nagambie, Tabilk and surrounding areas. A fee applies for service provision.

Post Acute Care Service
This service is a short term state funded program coordinating the provision and delivery of assessed services
to people following a recent stay in a public hospital facility.

Adult Day Activity Group
The planned activity group runs 4 days per week form 10am – 3pm. The group is based in the community services
building at Seymour District Memorial Hospital. The group run a series of programs and social outings aimed to
enhance daily living skills and social interaction. An eligibility assessment is essential as part of the referral process.

Barrabill House

Barrabill House is a residential aged care facility that provides accommodation and full nursing care to senior citizens
who are no longer able to be maintained within their own home environments. Barrabill House moved into a new facility
in August 2006, incorporating the latest technology to assist the nursing staff to provide the best care possible. The
residents are also supported by leisure and lifestyle workers, dedicated food service and hotel service staff, as well a
team of allied health professionals such as a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, podiatrist and
a social worker. After admission to Barrabill House care plans are developed by the staff to best provide for all resident
needs whether they be physical, emotional, social or spiritual. It is this attention to individual needs that ensures the
optimal comfort and care is provided.

Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC)
We are an outpatient facility providing services including Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, Social Work, Nursing,
Speech Therapy, Podiatry, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs. Diabetes education, Women’s health and
Antenatal Clinics are also available within the facility. Other visiting services are Orthotist and Prosthetics monthly,
Vision Australia as needed, Counselling provided by Department of Veterans Affairs for Vietnam Veteran Clients as needed.
Equipment loan service available.

Located at the junction of the Hume and Goulburn Valley Highways, Seymour is nestled in a picturesque valley at the base of the Tallarook Ranges on the banks of the Goulburn River.

The Goulburn River, edged with majestic gums, and its parks with native animals like koalas, provides the backdrop for Seymour.  Surrounding Seymour are the Scenic Heritage Listed Trawool Valley, the spectacular Nagambie Lakes, the stunningly rugged Strathbogie Ranges and the State Forests of the Tallarook Ranges.   This sets the scene for a wide variety of activities and attractions including wineries, rail & military memorabilia, art & antiques, boutique cafes & shops, historical buildings & scenic heritage parks. Nature and adventure enthusiasts can enjoy bushwalking, fishing, boating, camping and much more.

Route 64, The Winery Trail begins at Seymour.  It takes you on a scenic journey past historic sites and famous Thoroughbred Studs to the fine wineries of the Seymour & Nagambie Lakes Wine Region.

Seymour is a substantial country town with a population of 7,000, centrally located in the state of Victoria.  At an elevation of 141 metres, it is 97km north of Victoria's capital city, Melbourne, at the junction of the Hume and Goulburn Valley Highways.  It is only a leisurely one hour drive along the Hume Highway from Melbourne or Tullarmarine Airport.
